Penza 2009

Penza. I was invited to participate in the symposium in Penza, Russia in 2009. There were about 30 stone carvers including myself, working on 2.5 m blocks of Russian marble. There were also 10 wood sculptors and a few metal artists too. We had one month to make our proposed pieces, using machines as well as hand tools.

The theme for this years symposium was Myths and legends. My piece was based on a Welsh legend about a giantess who was so beautiful that when she walked flowers grew in her path. The pieces remain on site when finished and are all part of the Penza sculpture park.
