The David Shepherd Wildlife Artist of the Year competition 2019
Bronze frog
This year I decided to try and get a place in the David Shepherd Artist of the year exhibition. This prize has a consistently high standard and I have always admired the winners.
As one of the categories is “disappearing fast” I decided to enter one of my frogs. However, right before the deadline, I opted to make a new one! Maybe not the best move but there you go. This is the first time I have worked directly in wax for transformation to bronze, I liked it although did find the wax I was using to be stickier than I would have liked.
I then took the wax to the foundry in Banyoles where they bathed it in ceramic and poured the hot wax into that. This is called the lost wax method. They then broke off the ceramic and polished up what was inside and added a brown patina.
Now I have to wait until the end of March for the judging to be announced!!
